Visa
All foreigners most have a Visa when entering Nepal. Visas can be obtained at the Katmandu airport on arrival.
To obtain a Visa in Nepal, you must bring a hard copy of your passport ( which should be obtained before leaving Australia ) and US $25. This Visa will cover your 10 days in Nepal.
key information: Your passport most is valid for at least 6 months.
Customs Regulation:
All baggage will be x-rayed on the arrival in Nepal and departure for safety hazards. This process is to stop imports and exports of drugs and guns.
- You may not import Nepali rupees
- no restrictions on bringing in either cash or travellers cheques, but the amount is taken out when you depart should not be more than the amount brought in.
Antiques
You may want to prevent from bringing in furniture or artwork to Nepal as Nepal as been victims of international art theft over the last 20 years.
Health
The capital of Nepal, Kathmandu has the best health facilities in the country but the further you move away from the city the standards of the health clinics drops because of the finical difficulties of the country. This shows the country struggles to sustain great health standers thought out the country because of its finicial state.
Warning: try to avoid self-diagnosis and treatment as it can be risky but instead seek medical help at a clinic or hospital if you get sick.
Medical Checklist ;before departure
Aspirin; for pain or fever
Anti-inflammatory; for muscle and joint pain, headache and fever
Antibiotics; in Nepal, antibiotics are sold without a prescription, which has led to widespread resistance to some common antibiotics
Promethazine; for a relief of severe nausea
Antihistamine for allergies, eg hay fever
cold and flu tablets, throat lozenges
Antiseptic; for cuts and grazes
Bandages
water purification tablets
scissors, tweezers and an electric thermometer (mercury thermometers are prohibited by airlines)
Insurance
When getting insurance for Nepal make sure it covers medical and emergency repatriation including helicopter evacuation and medical evacuation to Bangkok. Cost around $40 US
